DREAM – 2nd International Students Summer Program and World Youth Leaders Assembly

About DREaM
DReAM is international student summer program initiated by UGM students first in 2009 to embrace all differences of background, nationality, idealism, religions, and to conduct a research based activities in three realms of interests: small medium enterprises, post-disaster management, and community empowerment. The theme for this year DReAM is ‘Preparing Global Future Leaders for Better Awareness and Mutual Understanding among Nations’ by adopting the interfaith cooperation approach in creating a better tomorrow.

International Student Summer Program for Better Nations Understanding: DREAM 2009 have been held from 21 July 2009 to 30 July 2009 by Office of International Affairs (KUI) Universitas Gadjah Mada. This is the first time UGM presenting International Summer Program 2009. The participants consisted of 15 foreign students from various countries and 15 local students. The program is designed based on field study approach and intercultural exchange program. The flexibility of the program gave students the opportunity to participate in both small group workshops as well as whole group activities to ensure positive friendship networks throughout the week. This program aimed to increase student’s awareness in order to be part of the global society through academic approach. By the end of the program participants have gained more insight and inspirations through the activities and acquisition of new skills.

There were some activities such as field trips, community service, extreme sport, and performance art from participating different countries. During the program the participants did not only interact with fellow participants, but also with local residents in the villages by indulging themselves in UGM’s Field College-Work (KKN) Program. Participants have been driven to elaborate the diverse beauty of famous Hindu temples and Buddhist temples in Yogyakarta. In the end of this program, at Closing Ceremony, the participants performed cultural acts based on their country culture.

Empowering Mind with Prevailing Lectures
DREaM International Students Summer Program 2009 is designed based on field study approach and intercultural exchange program. DREaM 2009 topics highlight on thethree specific areas which are disaster management, cultural empowerment, and microeconomics. The purpose of DREaM 2009 is to be a meeting place for discussion and debate, an arena where ideas are born, friendships are made, and valuable lessons are learned. For the academic agenda, the participants attend general lecture and grounded lecture.

The flexibility of the program gives participants the opportunity to participate in both small group workshops as well as whole group activities to ensure positive friendship networks throughout the week. Workshops will be challenging, fun, and practical; offering a combination of interactive lectures, group work, and presentations. TheDREaM participants divided into specific topics groups; each group contains foreign students and Indonesian students. By the end of the program they will have to present what they have worked on.

The objectives of this program are:

* Building the spirit of multiculturalism and interfaith collaboration for the next global leaders.
* Enhancing the responsibility of the youth to the society and environment
* Introducing cultural and traditional values for the development to the youth
* Why Interfaith?
* Interfaith cooperation approach is important issue because recently conflict has its root based on faith. From Catholic – Protestant conflict in Ireland to Pattani conflict in Thailand. This approach is expected to emerge mutual understanding among youth from different backgrounds

ABOUT Hadramaut

Hadramaut is one of the provinces in the southern part of the Republic of Yemen, a province rich in Islamic civilization, and overflowing with knowledge. Since the past people have come from all over the country to study at this place, until the rise of the great scholars of Islam spread to various countries including Indonesia beloved State. Until now thousands of manuscripts of the work of previous scholars son is still preserved in local libraries, the relationship (communication) between Indonesia and Yemen, had been lost many years ago, when the country was conquered and colonized by the communists.

Thank God all that has passed, to ease return true communication coupled with the re-emergence of Islamic institutions, the container penggemblengan da’wa Prophet generation. Indonesia is one country that many sons and daughters of the nation to Yemen to gain knowledge in Islam spreaders come.

UNIVERSITY AL-AHGAFF

Al-Ahgaff is one of the universities located in the province of Hadramaut, the university was officially founded in 1994 by decree of the Minister of Education no. 5 / 1994 dated February 8, by leading scholars who pioneered l Allama Al Habib Abdullah bin Al Haddad Mufti Mahfudz Hadramaut province. In 1995 the University of Al-Ahgaff university officially became a member of the union and the Arab countries officially became members of the Association of Islamic Universities.

Al-Ahgaff University has four Faculties as follows:

Placed in the city “Tarim” which had always been known as the city of Sciences and Scholars’. University of Al-Ahgaff with the Faculty of sharia has been trying to maintain and incorporate the Salaf and Kholaf manhaj.

FACULTY tarbiyah (PRINCESS)

Located in the city of Mukalla. The student, armed with various Islamic sciences in accordance with the needs of time, thereby becoming the knowledgeable women sholihah high and broad-minded. At the University of Al-Ahgaff also has opened the program (S2) and (S3) Faculty of Sharia, Arabic Sciences and MT.

THE CONDITIONS OF REGISTRATION
1. Fill out the registration form
2. Submit a photo copy of high school diploma / MA / equivalent, as many as two sheets with an average rating of at least 7.0.
3. Certificate no more than four years.
4. Submit a color photograph 4 x 6 size of four sheets. (White Background)
5. Bring a letter of introduction from the boarding school / school.
6. For the diploma has not been out, so he can deliver a certified photo copy of report cards from school SMU / MA / equivalent.

Comments: Postgraduate Awards are awarded by the University Council, on the recommendation of the Senate, to candidates in the first year of their thesis research for a Master’s degree.

Tenure of a Postgraduate Award by a Master’s degree student is for one year, or until the thesis is submitted, (whichever period is the shorter.) Students must be in the first year of their thesis research to be eligible for an Award. Zurich Ph.D. Program in Molecular Life Sciences

The Zurich Ph.D. Program in Molecular Life Sciences is a joint program of the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich, two highly prestigious Swiss universities with excellent research facilities. The program offers research and education opportunities in a stimulating international environment for ambitious students who wish to work towards a Ph.D. in biochemistry, bioinformatics and computational biology, genetics, microbiology, and cell, developmental, molecular, structural and systems biology. Students accepted into the program perform their research project in one of the participating research groups, according to their scientific interest. Advanced teaching and training courses are offered throughout the curriculum. Students will obtain their Ph.D. from either the University of Zurich or ETH Zurich and receive a graded certificate from the program. The program is run in English.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent from a university in the field of Natural Sciences before starting the Ph.D. program in Molecular Life Sciences. Applicants accepted for the program will have to register with either the University of Zurich or ETH Zurich, depending on the affiliation of their future research group.

Interviews
Applications are evaluated by an admissions committee. Selected candidates are invited for an interview taking place in Zurich in early February and in early September, for the application deadlines of December 1st and July 1st, respectively. Candidates will have the opportunity to meet with group leaders of their choice to discuss possible areas of research. Accommodation and travel expenses are reimbursed by the program committee. Accepted candidates are informed shortly after the interviews and should start their work within six months of acceptance to the program.

Travel Grant
The MLS program can offer 15-20 travel grants per year. The program may cover up to CHF 1000.- for the attendance of international meetings or summer schools. Application deadlines are every three months: January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1.
