International Ph.D. Programs in the Life Sciences Zurich Graduate School

The Life Science Zurich Graduate School houses several highly competitive Ph.D. programs, run jointly by the ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. Each program offers research and education opportunities in a stimulating international environment for ambitious students who wish to work towards a Ph.D. degree. Accepted students perform their research project in one of the participating research groups of their favorite program, according to their scientific interest. Advanced teaching and training courses are offered throughout the curriculum. The program language  is English throughout. Ph.D. studies usually last 3-4 years.

Applicants must hold or anticipate receiving a Masters degree or equivalent from a university in a relevant field before starting the Ph.D. program. Applicants accepted for the program will have to register with either the University of Zurich or ETH Zurich, depending on the affiliation of their future research group.

ABOUT Hadramaut

Hadramaut is one of the provinces in the southern part of the Republic of Yemen, a province rich in Islamic civilization, and overflowing with knowledge. Since the past people have come from all over the country to study at this place, until the rise of the great scholars of Islam spread to various countries including Indonesia beloved State. UNIVERSITY AL-AHGAFF

Al-Ahgaff is one of the universities located in the province of Hadramaut, the university was officially founded in 1994 by decree of the Minister of Education no. 5 / 1994 dated February 8, by leading scholars who pioneered l Allama Al Habib Abdullah bin Al Haddad Mufti Mahfudz Hadramaut province. In 1995 the University of Al-Ahgaff university officially became a member of the union and the Arab countries officially became members of the Association of Islamic Universities.

Al-Ahgaff University has four Faculties as follows:

FACULTY OF WAL QONUN Shariah (SON)

Placed in the city “Tarim” which had always been known as the city of Sciences and Scholars’. University of Al-Ahgaff with the Faculty of sharia has been trying to maintain and incorporate the Salaf and Kholaf manhaj.

FACULTY tarbiyah (PRINCESS)

Located in the city of Mukalla. The student, armed with various Islamic sciences in accordance with the needs of time, thereby becoming the knowledgeable women sholihah high and broad-minded. At the University of Al-Ahgaff also has opened the program (S2) and (S3) Faculty of Sharia, Arabic Sciences and MT.

THE CONDITIONS OF REGISTRATION
1. Fill out the registration form
2. Submit a photo copy of high school diploma / MA / equivalent, as many as two sheets with an average rating of at least 7.0.

The Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA) Graduate Fellowship at SMART, Singapore

The Singapore Ministry of Education has established 100 four-year fellowships for new doctoral students at NTU or NUS who will conduct their research at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology Centre (SMART Centre).

The establishment of this Fellowship Programme is intended to attract to NTU and NUS the best and most talented doctoral students from Singapore, the region, and beyond and educate them to be future leaders in science and technology for Singapore and beyond. The Fellowship will provide them with the opportunity to be involved in the strategic research programmes at the SMART Centre and provide them with the opportunity to be co-advised by an MIT faculty member. The student may spend up to six months doing research at MIT.

The SMA Graduate Fellowship at SMART provides:

* up to four years of full tuition fees at the student’s home university;
* a monthly stipend of S$3,200;
* a scholarly allowance of up to S$12,000 to help cover the expenses associated with a six month research residency at MIT;
* and co-supervision by an MIT and NTU/NUS faculty.

There is no bond associated with this fellowship.

* In order to be eligible for an SMA Graduate Fellowship, a student must:
* have graduated with an undergraduate degree with first class or second-upper (or equivalent);
* be an incoming new PhD student not currently matriculated;
* have a research interest that fits within one or more of the projects currently being carried out in SMART Interdisciplinary Research Group (IRG)s.

The projects within the IRGs :

* BioSystems and Micromechanics (BioSyM)
* Center for Environmental Sensing and Modeling (CENSAM)
* Future Urban Mobility (FM)
* Infectious Diseases (ID)

Postgraduate Courses for Professionals with Relevance to Developing Countries 2011/2012

CALL for APPLICATION (Deadline 29th July 2010)

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) – Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst – supports a range of postgraduate courses at German universities which aim at providing academically educated young professionals from Developing Countries with further specialized studies. The DAAD supports these selected programs with a certain quota of scholarships and with financial assistance for a special tutoring system. At the end of the course (programs run 12 to 36 months, depending on the particular institution) participants can obtain an internationally recognized Master’s or in some courses PhD degree.

Target group:
University teaching staff, researchers and professionals holding an academic degree and with at least two years of experience in the public or private institutions in the following areas:

* Economic Sciences / Business Administration/ Political Economics
* Development Co-operation
* Engineering and related sciences
* Mathematics
* Regional Planning
* Agricultural and Forest Sciences
* Environmental Sciences
* Public Health / Veterinary Medicine / Medicine
* Sociology and Education

Language of instruction:

* German or English, depending on the degree course:
* Participants in postgraduate courses in which English is the language of instruction receive a scholarship for a two-month intensive German language course.
* Participants in postgraduate courses in which German or German/English is the language of instruction receive a scholarship for a six-month intensive German language course. Please note that the candidates must have certain German language certificate at the time of application.

Criteria for applying:

* Age limit: 36 years of age at the time of application (for some courses 32 years)
* Degree: Bachelor or Master
* GPA: min 2,75 for Master candidates (some study programs applied GPA more than 2,75. Please see the detail on the website of each study program) and 3,00 for Doctoral candidates
* Work experience: at least two years after completing Bachelor degree.
